Confession: I was a bit under the weather last week. Thankfully it only lasted about 3 days but with a sore throat and that tickle in the my throat, I really needed something warm and soothing stat! One of my great new friends just emigrated to American from South Africa (my husband is also from there) and she came over and made me the most, to use a South African adjective, ‘divine’ drink. She called it a ‘Hot Toddy’ but it isn’t like any hot toddy I have ever had or seen! It is made with milk instead of water and makes the whiskey taste like caramel! And no, this does not make me produce more mucous! I felt great after drinking it. This is such a seductive treat, I might have to make it a nightly ritual no matter if I am sick or healthy!
Ingredients
- 1 cup raw milk (or organic low temp pasteurized milk)
- 1 Tbsp raw honey – where to buy
- 1/2 – 1 full jigger (1-2 ounces) of whiskey – depending on your tolerance!
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon (optional) – where to buy spices
- 1/4 tsp turmeric (optional) – where to buy spices
Directions
The basic recipe is to warm milk, honey and whiskey on medium heat until it is just scalded (foaming around the edges). Pour into a mug and enjoy. My friend used this butter warmer to warm the milk and I just ordered one because it will be great for so many uses in the future including warming milk, butter and making sauces.
When I made this the second time I added cinnamon and turmeric to the milk because I pretty much add them to everything! I loved the drink both ways so experiment and see which option you like better and comment here if you add any other spices that seem interesting to share with everyone!

Last night my mom and I each had a hot toddy–I made my own, based on the Irish ones (http://unchainedsunday.com/hot-toddy/), and I made one of yours from this post for her… She *loved* it and after one sip deemed it her new favorite. I managed to wrangle a sip myself and am pretty sure I agree, though I will have to make my own tonight, just to make sure. 🙂

Where can I find raw or organic milk?

It sound great, but having a milk intolerance I was wondering if I can use any other type of milk? I was thinking maybe coconut or almond.

Coconut milk would work great!
