Weekly Giveaway #3
Yesterday I gave you a choice of giveaway items to vote for on my Facebook Page. It was a close one this time! I will announce the giveaway winner on Friday. This is the third weekly giveaway – only one more next week.
So here we go…this week’s reader’s choice giveaway is a Stainless Steel Rice Cooker! Confession: I have never mastered the art of cooking rice in a pot on my stove and I would be lost without a rice cooker. I don’t feel badly about this – according to the book Consider the Fork: A History of How we Cook and Eat, rice cookers removed all the work and worry from cooking rice. It further states that rice cookers are the most important electrical gadget in the Japanese home (yes home!). The first automated rice cooker was launched in 1956 and in less than 10 years the rate of rice cooker ownership in Japan was 88%! Even in tiny rural kitchens in China, the rice cooker may be the only stove. This is one of my most used and absolute essential cooking tools. I love that it has no aluminum or teflon and it is the best for making rice ahead of time and keeping it warm which is very important in my kitchen!
Finally, before you enter I am going to offer you a tip.
Are you still cooking your rice in water?!
As I have shared with you before in my Real Food Survival Guide for Working Moms post – your family will enjoy rice more (white or brown) if you cook it in nourishing bone broth (where to buy broth) and coconut milk. They will also get those great minerals and gelatin from the bone broth this way! I think it is pretty important to get bone broth into my daughter on a regular basis and this is a great way to do it. Here is my recipe for basic brown rice (where to buy rice)– I promise if you cook it this way you will never look back to simply using water. Pin the recipe for later use!
Alright – time to enter! FYI: This is not a sponsored giveaway — I am paying for the prize myself, and will have it mailed to the lucky winner.
