I remember always wearing a facial moisturizer with SPF 15 when I used to buy my products at the drug store. I wore the same one for years. When I decided to ditch toxic beauty products it was the first to go. I really hadn’t thought about a replacement until recently when I read that carrot seed essential oil has a very high natural SPF. I decided I would formulate my own homemade daily facial moisturizer with this and…VOILA! I had my daily face cream with SPF back!
It is super easy to make. For real – super EASY! I added some additional essential oils that are beneficial for the skin as well including Frankincense, Lavender and Myrrh. This is one amazing daily face cream that is perfect to add to your daily regimen for Spring and Summer!
Homemade Daily Facial Moisturizer with SPF
Ingredients
- 10 drops Carrot Seed essential oil (I buy my essential oils HERE)
- 6 drops Myrrh essential oil (I buy my essential oils HERE)
- 4 drops Lavender essential oil (I buy my essential oils HERE)
- 4 drops Frankincense essential oil (I buy my essential oils HERE)
- 2 ounces (1/4 cup) coconut oil
Directions
Put ingredients into a stand mixer and whip until fluffly and light like frosting. Scoop into a 2 ounce glass jar to store.
Note: The lab SPF rating of carrot seed essential oil is somewhere between 38-40 SPF. Coconut oil is between 6-8 SPF.

Is there any substitute for the coconut oil? I have a bad skin reaction to it.

Jojoba would be a good one to try (I use it in a similar recipe)-it is very close to our own natural oil and does not leave you feeling greasy. It is a tad spendy.

Almond oil or even olive oil would work just fine. Any carrier you want really. Enjoy!

Hi, Is this safe to use on little people. I live in Australia where the UV is extreme all through late Spring and Summer. I just want to make sure that it will protect my pasty white skin and my little one’s skin properly.
Thanks
Kat

Could you not just use the coconut oil and carrot seed E.O.? Why the other ingredients? Are they needed?

Could this be done with Tallow instead of coconut oil or add some tallow to the recipe?
Lindsey Gremont says
yes.

Is there an oil I could use in place of Myrrh? I have all of the other ‘ingredients’ plus several I’ve used in skincare before like Elemi.

I was looking at purchasing the carrot seed oil. It appears that there are two methods for processing it: steam distilled or CO2 extraction. Is there a better one to buy or will either work. I want the best protection possible since I have pale skin and live in CO. Thanks!

Hi there, I only have a huge KitchenAid mixer, I’m thinking of how puny this will be to mix. How long does one batch of the recipe last you? And (dumb question I know but I don’t know very much about essential oils, just starting) would quadrupling this recipe be okay/will the amount of oils in it be too concentrated? Like I said I know nothing about essential oils, I am learning:) Thanks for your time:)
