As the mom of a dairy intolerant kid, I have my work cut out for me when it comes to school lunches. Next year, we’ll be packing her lunch free of most of the eight major food allergens. Try these six lunchbox-friendly allergy-free meals.
6 Allergy-Free School Lunches
1. Roasted Cauliflower Soup:
This vegan and Paleo soup is perfect for your kid’s thermos. Pack it with fruits and veggies on the side to fill them up with healthy and allergen-free foods. For spice-sensitive kids, leave out the curry.
2. Vegetable Chowder:
Another classic thermos meal, this vegan and Paleo vegetable chowder is sure to please.
3. Bacon Carbonara:
We leave out the cheese in this family-favorite noodle dish. It’s made with healthy wheat-free rice noodles, crispy bacon. Egg-free? Make it with flax eggs instead.
4. Zucchini Noodles:
Spaghetti made of zucchini noodles topped with bacony bolognese kept warm in a thermos makes an amazingly hearty and allergy-free school lunch.
5. Smoothies:
Dairy-free smoothies in a thermos along with meat roll-ups and veggie sticks make a great well-rounded school lunch. Try it with this copycat Orange Julius or, if you’re not nut-free add Banana Almond Butter Coconut Smoothies into your lunchbox rotation.
6. Avocado & Tomato Salad:
Delicious served cold, this avocado and tomato salad is full of healthy fats and is free of allergens.
The key to packing your child’s allergy-free lunch is to make it look delicious. While having their child trade away healthy foods for other kids’ snacks is annoying for most parents, it’s downright dangerous for your child. Have fun with lunch. Create caterpillars out of grapes or cheese and crackers. Get tiny cookie cutters to cut your breads, vegetables, fruits and meats into cute shapes and drop in cute little notes.
