I love modern medicine for the tests you can do to confirm your gut feelings as a mom. To dissect and diagnose the issue. Now I don’t always agree with the proposed solutions and am so glad our provider is not on the bandaid train. She worked with us on a truly root cause treatment plan!
I suspected due to my #emergencycsection that my son’s gut flora was not what it should be. He also had antibiotics on the first day of life. Talk about trauma for this mama who is all about #guthealth. For years even before I had him I was sure picky eating was due to gut issues. My son currently is very choosy with his food. Now I know why.
He thankfully doesn’t have a parasite. But he does have low stomach acid, inflammation markers, and some overgrowth of some h. pylori and low enzymatic function and also low immune function and ability to detox because of all this. His beneficial gut flora is low. He didn’t get seeded via a vaginal birth 😫. I had no control over this outcome but I don’t look back. I look forward.
So this basically means he can’t digest food well and he can’t get rid of toxins well. So how to deal with this in a toddler who can’t swallow pills? There are ways! In discussion with our health provider we decided on making a gummie for him with all kinds of things that can help increase his stomach acid and reduce inflammation. We also decided on some things to help with the h. pylori (lemongrass is especially effective in many medical studies!).
Here is the gummie I made via an experiment. I tasted it. It was STRONG. I had my daughter taste it. She thought it was disgusting. I felt like I had failed. Would he eat it? The kid who eats nothing but meat, cheese, potatoes, my grain free loaf and rice?! He won’t even eat anything like applesauce or yogurt for me to mix in anything. And all the things have strong tastes! Eek! Well in a lesson to remind me again that we crave what we NEED he not only ate it he asks for it. For the last few days he has eaten his gummie before every meal. He has also had a special drink I made him before dinner. I am amazed.
I am praying this helps move the needle in turning his gut and immune health around. Do not ever let anyone tell you you are just a mom and can’t come up with good solutions! Ok here is the recipe!
Gut Support Gummie for toddlers
Ingredients
- 1 cup apple cider vinegar (with the mother)
- 1/2 cup elderberry wolfberry syrup
- 4 TBSP grass fed beef gelatin
- 2 TBSP raw honey
- 1 TBSP turmeric (I use Dr. Cowan’s Garden)
- 2 drops Citrus CBD tincture per gummie (we use Nature’s Ultra which you can get through a Young Living account – sign up here)
- 2 drops Copaiba PER GUMMIE (get oils wholesale here)
Directions
Slowly heat the ACV and elderberry syrup and honey and turmeric over low heat. Stir in each tablespoon of gelatin until it is well incorporated. Pour into small silicon molds. While the mixture is still liquid drop in the CBD and the Copaiba – 2 drops each for each gummie. Let set. Pop out the gummies and store in the fridge.
